What time is it there

The vertical lines are an hour of the world turning, fifteen degrees apart. A city sits the same fraction across this map as its hour sits through the day, which is the whole reason the map is drawn flat and square rather than in any of the shapes that flatter a globe.

A dot is filled while the clock where it stands reads between ten at night and six in the morning. That is a fact about the clock on the wall there and nothing else: it is not a statement about the sun, and it is not a statement about who is asleep.

Twelve cities, west to east

Why two offsets and not one

Half the places on this list move their clocks in the spring and move them back in the autumn, and the dates they do it on are not the same dates. A single number would be wrong for months at a time, so both are printed: what the zone keeps in January, and what it keeps in July, both for the year ahead. The live faces above read the rules from your device's own copy of the time zone database, plus the changes too recent for some copies of it, which this site applies itself: British Columbia has stayed on UTC−7 since 8 March 2026 and Morocco has stayed on UTC since 20 September 2026. The clock-change page says where each comes from.

Moving a bedtime between two of these

Knowing the hour somewhere else is not the same sum as working out when to sleep once you are there. That one runs on the difference rather than the times, and it has its own planner, which counts the nights before you fly as well as the ones after you land.

Every city, by the offset it keeps in January

Grouped on January so the groups stay put. 89 cities, 22 offsets. The times run in your browser, from your device's own time-zone rules and the same corrections; without scripts, each city shows its January and July offset instead.
